Did you know there is a direct correlation between peace in our hearts and thankfulness?

Try this when you are anxious and worried : list things you are thankful for. Start with the obvious, and then dig deeper to those meaningful things that touch your heart. If you are really serious list things you are thankful for that directly involve the things that cause you anxiety.

This principle is as old as time and based on sound Biblical values.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 6-7

To cultivate this fruit we printed fall colored leaves with a Bible quote on each one that talks about thankfulness. Then we had the children write something they’re thankful for on each leaf. This garland can hang to decorate the house this fall and serve as a reminder of the things we are grateful for when worries sneak in.

We tied this activity in with Armistice tomorrow since it is a time to celebrate peace, and used that to talk about the need for peace in our hearts today. Then we brought it home with the concept of Thanksgiving because on November 11th we are thankful for all those who served to keep up safe and today we are also thankful for to God for many intangible things. Grace that we don’t deserve. Hope in a future that only He knows. Forgiveness. Confidence. The list is inexhaustible. Feel free to continue your list in the comments below…
