While the adults were enjoying having their heart-to-heart, I asked the kids to hep make cards for people in need and fill bags with elements of a meal and toiletries.

This activity kept the kids hands busy for an hour while the adults talked about what it means to follow Jesus and incorporate Biblical values into our everyday lives. I love that the children were within earshot. I love that they were able to jump in the discussion and share their own prayer requests too.

The activity is part of series I have created to teach Cupcake and her friends how to cultivate the Fruit of the Spirit in their lives. This practical demonstration of love kicked off the new school year and was well received by parents who are eager that their children learn to think of others around them. We want to bring our kids up with these values, we just don’t always have the time or creativity to invest in it like we want to.

Every participant, even the adults, were entrusted with a blessing bag this evening that we are supposed to give to the next person on our path who is in need. This way we can teach charity and generosity to our kids without always feeling guilted into giving money, when we know money is not always the best way to help.

The note says:

This small gesture is to say that I am praying for your safety and comfort and the next step God has planned along your way. Warmly.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord.”
The Bible, book of Jeremiah, chapter 29 verses 10 to 14.

La Bible, Livre de Jérémie, Châpitre 29 versets 10 à 14.
