Find a reason to smile.

Day 68 of coronavirus in France

Day 17 of enforced confinement

A joyful heart is good medicine.

— Solomon, the wise, Proverbs 17:22

My daughter decided to walk to school today. Maybe yours will ride the school bus up and down the hall of the apartment. Silliness is highly encouraged.

If you don’t have more time in your day for visiting virtual museums and reading novels, then you are not alone. I don’t know anyone who does. Neighbors need our help. Loved ones need someone to talk to. Simple tasks like grocery shopping have become draining experiences.

So, we’ve had to invent new triggers for joy and laughter. Sometimes that means injecting silliness into an already existing or necessary part of the day. It could be a meal, or a chore, it doesn’t really matter. As long as you keep smiling.

Call up a friend and have a good laugh.

Write a thank you card to someone.

Sing a silly song in the shower.

Narrate your chores with a silly imaginative scenario.

Wear a costume to dinner or a video call.

Listen to an inspirational meditation while eating breakfast. What is your go-to book for uplifting the spirit? I love going back to Elijah’s story over and over. I don’t know why, I just feel understood.
